Richard Matthews Obituary, Death – Richard Matthews, who was 71 years old and from Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, with his family at his side. He was the son of the late Herbert Boyd and Willetta Rose Matthews and was born in Welch, West Virginia on January 7, 1952. The wedding took place on December 9, 1972, and the bride’s name was Robin Kay Matthews.
He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) for over 25 years and served in the United States Army. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children Ritch Matthews (who is married to Lauren Cramer), James Matthews, JB Matthews (who is married to Brittney), and Christina Krupa (who is married to Mark); his grandchildren Calvin, Payton, Bronson, Jayden, and Jaxson Matthews and Hailey, Levi, Kylie, and Kyle Krupa; and his siblings Steve Matthews (who is married to Beverly), Danny Matthews (who is married to Carmen),
Richard’s son Nick Matthews, his sister Jane Matthews, his brother Harry Matthews, his brother-in-law Charlie Blevins, and his mother-in-law Doris Fay Smith all passed away before him. Richard’s parents were also among those who came before him in death. The arrangements for the cremation will be taken care of. On Tuesday, May 23, from one o’clock in the afternoon until the time of the memorial ceremony at seven o’clock in the evening, friends and family will be received at the Hastings Funeral Home, located at 153 Spruce Street in Morgantown. During the time set aside for visitation, anyone who knew Nick Matthews and cared for him are encouraged to come pay their respects and celebrate his life.
