John Yeo Obituary Death – Recent news reports indicate that Dr. John Yeo, a longstanding friend of SpinalCure Australia as well as a sponsor of the organization, passed suddenly. In the picture that follows, he can be seen alongside his wife Joy and Associate Professor Marc Ruitenberg. We are passing on the news of his passing with the utmost sadness that we feel.
Dr. Yeo was a pioneer in the clinical management and rehabilitation of people living with spinal cord injuries.

He was instrumental in the development of the first spinal unit at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital, which was named after him. This department is currently widely regarded as the most accomplished example of its kind around the globe. Around forty years ago, Duncan, who is now our Executive Director, was working as the Director of the unit when he suffered the spinal cord injury that eventually led to his promotion to his current position.In 1967, Dr. Yeo was presented with a Churchill Fellowship so that he could continue his research into different therapies for spinal injury.

After finishing his studies, he joined the Trust as a Life Member and continued his involvement with the organization. His dedication to assisting those who have suffered spinal cord injuries will go on in the shape of the Dr. John and Mrs. Joy Yeo Churchill Fellowship, which is awarded to researchers who are attempting to improve outcomes for people who have recently been wounded. He passed away on April 15, 2018.
