Since he was 13 years old, Al has been employed in the construction industry. Together with his father, Al has grown the business from the ground up, beginning with new roofs and moving on to the construction of new homes. He was a wonderful gardener in addition to being an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping. Al cherished the time he got to spend with his family and especially with the family dog, Jay.

He was the finest son and brother anybody could have asked for, and he was willing to help anyone in need. He belonged to the American Legion, the National Trappers Association, and the Division of Wildlife, among other organizations.
His father, Alvin H. Sr., as well as his sisters, Angel (Scott) Brandner, Dawn (Tim) Prince, Rebel (Tom) Bigler, and Robin Cooper, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, are among his surviving family members.
